A. Vince Colella Appointed to Michigan Lawyers Weekly prestigious Critics from the Legislation

Southfield, Mich. — April 10, 2019 — A. Vince Colella, civil rights and personal injury lawyer and managing partner of Southfield-based Moss & Colella, P.C., was appointed to the Leaders at the Law class of 2019 from the authorized trade book, Michigan Lawyers Weekly. Honorees on the enviable list are chosen from all regions of the law in account of the outstanding contributions to the practice of law in Michigan along with also the direction case they set for different attorneys. Colella is a trailblazer in a new era of civil rights, directing public sector accountability to a different degree for the function of taxpayers’ legal defense. While his legal profession originally focused entirely on personal injury, his civil rights clinic is a natural outgrowth which has led to far-reaching societal implications and emerging trends in law. Colella’s present civil rights cases include representing two families that have lost their loved ones to mortal force police shootings: Theoddeus Gray, murdered November 4, 2018 from the St. Clair Shores Police Department, and Cody Reynolds, murdered by a Royal Oak police officer on May 14, 2018. In 2017, he obtained a private settlement for the family of Janet Wilson, who had been murdered by a Dearborn police officer 2016.
Back in October 2018, Colella attracted nationwide attention to the plight of households affected by offender and lax mortuary practices when he registered a $1 million suit on behalf of a Detroit lady whose husband’s remains were handled from the now-closed Cantrell Funeral Home in Detroit. He had been among the first lawyers to file a civil action from the now-defunct funeral house.
Along with civil rights, Colella has gained a reputation for effective lawsuit efforts between recreational accidents/gross neglect, government accountability, and immunity instances. Back in November of 2017, he got a favorable decision in the Michigan Supreme Court as it refused leave for charm, permitting a Court of Appeals decision to stand against a public-school store instructor for a student who dropped her hands in a table saw (Bellinger v Kram). The Bellinger decision paved the way for some other cases against state workers whose negligent conduct results in death or injury.
While Colella gained has local and nationwide attention because of his civil rights work, he asserts his own personal injury trial practice that comes with a vast selection of practice areas: auto, motorcycle and truck accidents; insurance disputes; overall uncertainty; premises liability; sexual harassment and attack; employment discrimination and wrongful death.
Colella has functioned as part of the Executive Board of this Michigan Association for Justice (previously known as the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association) and is currently a part of the State Bar of Michigan, the Oakland County Bar Association, the Detroit Bar Association, along with the American Bar Association. He’s licensed as a plan and frequently serves as a Case Evaluator for the Oakland County Circuit Court Case Management Office. He also received a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Michigan State University.
